Bike!
I finally, finally found a cheap used stationary bicycle. Now it's only a matter of time and ingenuity between me and my spiffy new flying bicycle! There are still a few technical issues to iron out. (Anyone know how to properly adjust the seat height if your bike has one of those ancient "tractor seats?") But I think it could be kind of fun. I have visions of rigging up some kind of simple dual-axis rocking assembly (think of a rocking horse set on top of a rocking bassinet, only less precarious, and with more wires, weights, and pulleys) so I can actually lean/bank into the turns, but we'll see how my budget, time, and technical ability hold out.

I'm sure I'll have a lot more to say about this in the future. Oh, and I have pictures of my Burning Life project, too. Frankly, I'm not all that enthused about them. The pictures don't seem to capture it very well, for some reason. Or maybe it just wasn't all that wonderful to begin with. I suppose it doesn't matter now, anyway. Burning Life will shortly sink back into the playa for another year, taking all of the builds (bad, good, or indifferent) with it. I'll post pics and blurbs here shortly, in any case, just to get it off my mind.
Comments:
I wasn't that impressed with Burning Life myself. There were a few kind of neat things there but if you hang around the Sandbox areas with any frequency at all you see those sorts of random builds all the time.

I guess what I'm saying is, you don't need some "event" to see what interesting ideas people can produce.

Well, it's nice to have an event to encourage people to concentrate their art-for-art's-sake creativity in one place.

But, yeah, I was a little disappointed with the turnout this year, too. Maybe it's just nostalgia for the good old days (of last year), but it seems like many folks just didn't put in the effort that they did last time. I was going through some pictures I took in 2005, and there were comparatively few "knock your socks off" builds this time. Sure, there were a couple of exceptions, but for the most part it was kind of lackluster. Maybe I've gotten jaded in the last 12 months. Maybe it just wasn't exclusive and prestigious enough (with double the sims) this time to defeat the natural apathy and inertia. Or maybe there wasn't enough money in it. But I'm probably just being cynical here.

And yeah, having built something in a BL sim, I might as well have been building in a sandbox. I've never been cage-gunned, harrassed, and generally poked at more than I was in the last three weeks. Thank goodness for the no-push flag, and the ignorance of the average griefer that attempted to push me for 20 minutes before he figured out what the No symbol on his taskbar meant, or I would have spent half my time in orbit. Dang, there are some obnoxious gits wandering around SL.
